Christ Church School currently recognizes athletic achievement in First through Fifth Grade students in these two categories:
President’s Council on Physical Fitness
Students are awarded on how well they do in the following five events:
- Shuttle run (measures quickness)
- Quarter, half, or one mile run (measures endurance)
- Sit and reach (measures flexibility)
- Sit-ups (measures abdominal strength)
- Pull-ups (measures upper body strength)
Students that score above 50% of the national average in all five of the categories will receive a National Award for Physical Fitness. Students that achieve a score of 85% or better in all five categories will receive the Presidential Award for Physical Fitness.
Punt, Pass & Kick
Students participate in the NFL’s Punt, Pass & Kick competition every year during the Fall football unit in their Physical Education classes. Students are given one chance to punt, pass, and kick the football as far and accurately as they are able. Each student’s score is determined by distance and accuracy. Based on their scores, finalists are selected in each age group: Boys and girls ages 6-7; boys and girls ages 8-9; boys and girls ages 10-11. These finalists move on to a sectional tryout. The winners from Sectionals will compete at the Miami Dolphins Stadium before a home game to determine the South Florida winner. CCS has had great success in this event, as one of our own students has won the South Florida title for each of the last ten years, with multiple winners in the last few years.
