Library Media Technology Center

The Christ Church School Library Media Technology Center (LMTC) offers students and teachers access to over 8,000 books, reference materials, magazines, and daily newspapers. In addition, there are 22 networked computers that provide access to a variety of online educational resources.
 
User Responsibilities
  • Materials are expected back by the due date so that they will be available to others.
  • Materials should be returned in the same condition as recieved. Damaged and lost materials must be paid for before report cards are issued.
  • All students are expected to adhere to the Christ Church School Computer and Systems Usage Policy as stated in the Student Handbook.
  • The students will uphold their RESPECT pledge and honor a Christian community of caring in the LMTC.
Borrowing Materials
  • Students and parents are encouraged to borrow materials.
  • Books may be checked out by students for one week and may be renewed twice.
  • Kindergarten and first graders may check out one book. Second through fifth graders may check out two books.
  • Reference books and periodicals must be used in the library.
The LMTC program supports each grade throughout the curriculum. Students are given instruction on identifying, locating, interpreting and evaluating information through print, non-print and electronic media. Interactive educational instruction brings together technology and classroom learning in areas of math, science, reading readiness, reading, social studies, and English.
 
Skills and Project-Based Activities:
 
PreKindergarten E3 & 3
  • Develop familiarity and enjoyment of the library while participating in storytelling activities.
PreKindergarten 4
  • Introduce different types of reading genres (books, magazines, newspapers).
  • Reinforce skills using educational software such as Bailey's Book House, Millie's Math House, Sammy's Science House, Trudy's Time & Place, and A to Zap.
  • Reinforce skills using SuccessMaker (SME) REading Readiness.
Kindergarten
  • Learn how to care for books and the procedures to checkout and return materials.
  • Understand the parts of a book, different types of books, and other library terms.
  • Reinforce skills using SuccessMaker (SME) Reading Readiness and Math.
  • Develop keyboarding skills using Kid Keys.
  • Reinforce skills by using educational software such as Bailey's Book House, Millie's Math House, Sammy's Science House, Trudy's Time & Place, and A to Zap.
  • Promote creativity using Kid Pix Paint and Draw.
  • Develop organizational skills using Kidspiration.
First and Second Grade
  • Learn about the different parts of a book, what the author and illustrator provide to the book, and how to determine between fiction and non-fiction.
  • Receive instruction on the ten main subject categories of the Dewey Decimal System and how the sections are broken down.
  • Develop and understanding of the different areas of the library and the ability to locate books.
  • Learn basic computer operations and concepts.
  • Reinforce skills using SuccessMaker (SME) Reading and Math.
  • Develop keyboarding skills using Kid Keys and Type to Learn, Jr.
  • Develop organizational skills using Kidspiration.
  • Promote creativity by learning to create multimedia projects using Kid Pix (Bible Character Report and Author Study).
  • Introduce students to the electronic card catalog (OPAC)
Third Grade, Fourth and Fifth Grade
  • Introduction to the Sunshine State Young Readers' Program (SSYRA)
  • Receive instruction on writing a bibliography using three different types of of sources. (CCS uses a simplified standard for bibliographic citation.)
  • Learn about copyright and prevention of plagiarism.
  • Practice independent use of OPAC with detailed searches.
  • Learn basic computer operations and concepts.
  • Build an appreciation of authors and genres through activities.
  • Develop an understanding and appreciation for award-winning books.
  • Promote creativity by learning to create multi-media projects using  Kid Pix.
  • Learn and practice applying research skills using reference materials and Internet resources.
  • Develop organizational skills using Kidspiration and Inspiration.
  • Use SuccessMaker (SME) Reading and Math to reinforce skills.
  • Develop keyboarding skills uising Type to Learn, Jr. and Mavis Beacon.
  • Learn word processing skills using Microsoft Word.
  • Learn basic web design using Microsoft FrontPage (5th grade).
  • Learn to create a multi-media presentation using MicroSoft PowerPoint (5th grade).
